About the Crypto Market Cap Calculator
The formula is simple: market cap equals price times circulating supply. Fully diluted valuation uses the maximum supply instead, which shows what the project would be worth if every token were already in circulation.
Looking for the price a coin would need to reach a target market cap? Use the main market cap calculator on the home page, which works the other way round.
Market Cap Formula
Market capitalization is the total value of every coin in circulation. The formula is: market cap = current price x circulating supply. Rearranged, the price at a target market cap is: price = market cap / circulating supply.
Example: a token with 500 million coins in circulation at a price of 2 USD has a market cap of 1 billion USD.
Market Cap vs Fully Diluted Valuation
Market cap uses only the coins that are circulating today. Fully diluted valuation (FDV) uses the maximum supply, including coins that are locked, vesting or not yet mined. The formula is: FDV = price x max supply.
A large gap between market cap and FDV means a lot of supply is still to be released. That future supply can add selling pressure, which is why serious analysis looks at both numbers.
How to Use Market Cap Wisely
Market cap is a size measure, not a price measure. Keep these points in mind.
- A low price does not mean a coin is cheap. A coin with trillions of tokens can have a huge market cap at a tiny price.
- Compare coins by market cap, not by price per coin.
- Check how much supply is circulating and how much is still locked.
- Look at trading volume. A high market cap with thin volume can be hard to sell into.

How to calculate market cap
Market cap equals the current price multiplied by the circulating supply. Enter either value and the calculator works out the other.
Market cap formula crypto
Market cap = price x circulating supply. Rearranged, price = market cap / circulating supply, which is how you find a coin price at a target market cap.
Market cap vs FDV
Market cap uses circulating supply. Fully diluted valuation uses the maximum supply, so it shows value if every coin were already in circulation.
Circulating supply vs total supply
Circulating supply is what trades on the market now. Total supply includes locked or reserved coins that are not yet available.
Coin price at target market cap
Enter a target market cap and pick a coin. The calculator divides it by the circulating supply to give the implied price per coin.
Fully diluted valuation formula
FDV = current price x maximum supply. It shows the value of a project if all of its coins were released.
What is market capitalization
Market capitalization is the total value of a cryptocurrency, calculated as price multiplied by circulating supply. It is used to rank coins by size.
Crypto Market Cap Calculator FAQ
What is the market cap formula?
Market cap equals the current price multiplied by the circulating supply.
What is fully diluted valuation?
FDV is the price multiplied by the maximum supply. It shows the value if all tokens were in circulation.
Can I test a coin that does not exist yet?
Yes. Choose Custom and type any supply and price to model a new token.
How do I calculate a coin’s market cap?
Multiply the current price by the circulating supply. For a price of 5 USD and 200 million coins in circulation, the market cap is 1 billion USD.
What is the difference between circulating and total supply?
Circulating supply is the number of coins available in the market now. Total supply also includes coins that exist but are locked or reserved. Max supply is the hard cap on all coins that can ever exist.
Why do two sites show different market caps for the same coin?
Each data provider defines circulating supply a little differently and updates at different times, so the numbers can vary slightly.
