About the ROI Calculator

ROI is calculated as profit divided by the initial investment. It is useful for comparing investments, but it does not account for time unless you calculate an annualized return separately.

How to Calculate Crypto ROI

Return on investment compares the profit or loss with the amount originally invested. The basic formula is ROI = profit divided by initial investment multiplied by 100. Profit is current value plus income minus fees minus the initial investment.

For example, a 1,000 dollar investment that becomes 1,250 dollars has a 250 dollar profit and a 25 percent ROI before additional fees or income.

ROI Versus Profit and Loss

Profit is an amount of money. ROI is that result expressed as a percentage of the starting investment. Both numbers matter because a large dollar profit can come from a large investment, while ROI helps compare investments of different sizes.

ROI is not the same as annualized return. Two investments can have the same ROI but very different holding periods and risk levels.

How to Use ROI for Crypto Decisions

Include trading fees and rewards when you want a more realistic estimate. Compare results over the same time period, account for deposits and withdrawals and remember that past performance does not predict future returns.

  • Use the original amount actually invested.
  • Include staking or other income separately.
  • Subtract trading and withdrawal fees.
  • Compare ROI with risk, volatility and holding time.
